A poem I wrote for my sister

I wrote this for my sister last year for her birthday!

It is heavily inspired by one of my favourites, Shel Silverstein.

The Giving Girl

Born a foreigner in her own body, the giving girl sought her identity through others.

She gave her eyes to her mother, to view the world in a calm optimistic lens.

She gave her energy to her father, to be as determined and motivated.

She gave her humility to her eldest brother, to be relaxed and comfortable with the unknown.

She gave her integrity to her other brother, living her life with the morals he believed in.

She gave her soul, and age to her sister, to share life constantly with a best friend.

She gave a piece of her heart to everyone she continues to meet, to remind them that they are important.

She gave a lot of herself, you would think there is nothing left.

But she kept her voice, and is giving back to herself.

My sister and I.
